We all desire for that awesome score in GRE don’t we? But only a few are fortunate enough to get a score that attracts the admission board. Now getting a score like that is not a magic or a miracle. It is just that the student worked a little harder, put a little more effort than you. Let us now see some 10 quintessential requirements that facilitate success in GRE.

Acquaint yourself with GRE thoroughly: There should be some basic interest in you to know about the exam. Students always wait for ‘readymade’ information. I suggest you take time out of your ever busy schedule and gather some concrete information about GRE. The information that you gather makes you more knowledgeable than the information you glean from your friends or different sources. You can actually visit the official GRE website to secure complete information.

Understand the nature of the exam: It is very important to know the nature of the exam, i.e. GRE. Or for that matter any exam you take. You should know the number of sections in the exam and the score pattern. As you are running through the various sections of the exam, it is also important to know for yourself your areas of comfort and vice-versa. You in fact need to jot down all these points in a book or a note pad. You can also discuss these things with your friends or teachers.

Learn the directions: Each section has a set of rules to be followed. Read those rules thoroughly. Such a thing will also help you save some time while taking the actual exam. Knowing the pros and cons of each section and the score pattern will enlighten you and make you even more focused.

Get the hang of the exam: Yes, it is very very important to get the ‘feel’ of the exam before you actually take it. In order to attain such a thing it’s better you practice a lot may previous years GRE papers. There are many committed publishers coming up with Practice GRE Tests in the market. Take a few and see where you stand. You can actually compare your performance with your friend’s!!

Learn the nuances of a Computer Adaptive Test (CAT): Besides knowing the theoretical details of the test, knowing the technical details of the test is equally important. Only then will you become adept with using the mouse. You should also know how actually the entire test runs over a Computer. All these things will familiarize you with test and help you save time.

Time Management: It is important for you to know the time you can afford to spend behind a question. Not having knowledge of this will see you ending with lot many questions to answer and little time. God forbid if any such thing should happen!! Don’t you then want to practice more and more??

Don’t rush during the exam: In an urge to jump to the next question you might be reading a question impulsively. This might prove ‘hazardous’. Read a question completely and thoroughly before answering it.

Don’t fall a prey to worry and distress: It happens that sometimes we might not know an answer, despite the relentless hard work you have put in. Learn to forgive yourself for that. Still try answering it by doing some intelligent guessing. Take the examination in your stride.

Be prudent: Try answering all the questions by using your time judiciously. Have faith in yourself.

To err is human: Despite all the advice and suggestion your performance in the exam might not be ‘upto the mark’. Remember ‘to err is human’. Thanks to ETS you can emend your mistakes in the next GRE. ETS conducts the Computer Adaptive Test Version of GRE five times a year, once a month for students desiring to improve their score. Isn’t that a blessing? Cheer-up!
