At one juncture or another in life we all experience emotions like love, affection, sympathy, empathy etc. We experience, we feel but when we want to really express ourselves we fall short of words. We do not know which is the right phrase or word in English that suits the occasion or a particular feeling that we are experiencing. Intuitively or consciously we then shift to our mother tongue, don’t we?

Let us now see a few phrases or words that express our feelings the right way. Let us also learn to express ourselves correctly in English.

He fell head over heels in love with her. (feel deeply in love)

Their relation is purely platonic. (affectionate relationship between people)

Selena was more than infatuated (romantically obsessed), she was completely besotted with him (blindly and stupidly in love)

Phrases/Words that describe friendships and other positive relationships

Ramya and I hit off immediately (liked each other the moment we met). We are true soul mates (people who feel very close to each other).

Razia was my mother’s lifelong companion. (a friend who has been with her all her life)

The moment I met Prasoon, I could see he was a man after my own heart.(someone who thinks exactly the way you think)

Sridevi and I get on like a house on fire. (have an enjoyable relationship)

Amit and Sreedhar have been bosom friends/buddies/pals for years. (very close friends)

Anam and Aparna are inseparable. (always want to be together)

There’s always been a close bond between Kirsten and her aunt. (a feeling of togetherness)

Feeling a bond for brothers and sisters

Family ties

Some nouns and adjectives that speak about positive relations and their contextual usage:

Adjective: Affectionate

Noun: Affection

Meaning: love, fondness, warmth

Usage: She never shows much affection for her grandchildren

Adjective: Amiable

Noun: Amiability

Meaning: friendliness, cordiality

Usage: Mr. Stephen always treats his colleagues with great amiability

Adjective: Considerate

Noun: Consideration

Meaning: thought, deliberation, reflection

Usage: We should have some consideration for others

Adjective: Faithful

Noun: Faithfulness

Meaning: true, authentic

Usage: His faithfulness kept their marriage intact

Adjective: Fond

Noun: Fondness

Meaning: affection, partiality

Usage: She developed a fondness for her stepson

Adjective: Loyal

Noun: Loyalty

Meaning: fidelity, constancy

Usage: Loyalty cut him above the rest

I am sure you all enjoyed yourselves thoroughly reading this. Reading these words/phrases alone is not enough. You must try to use them in your day to day conversation.

Please do share some other words/phrases that comment on positive relationships. Doing this we can add a lot many words to our daily conversation list. This makes our communication even more effective.

    Before reading you suggestions into phrases/words that speak negative aspects of relationships I have to say that I was only had eyes in these themes. In fact, I would say I am feeling deeply in love,despite relationship is purely platonic.We hit off immediatly and have been felt very close,accurately bosom pals since then…
