What is a GRE exam?

GRE (general record exam) exam is a gateway for international student who wish to take an admission in any of 3500 universities in USA that offer the widest choice of over 1000 courses and in various other countries.

What is eligibility to take GRE??

Incumbent must have cleared high school or equivalent exam with valid passport.

Which countries accept GRE score?

Apart from United States GRE score is also acceptable in Canada, UK and various English speaking countries.

What is Subject GRE and who requires to take it??

This is a paper based test. Some Universities may demand Subject GRE. . The GRE Subject tests are meant to assess your qualification in a specific field of study. It is required mainly for Doctoral Study in the US and is also required by some universities for Masters Level programs .You must check out whether your chosen course requires subject test or not. It is held for 8 disciplines. Its scores ranges between 200 to 800.
What is a GRE score?

Good GRE score brings you one step closer to admission in your desired university. The total score is reported out of 1600. Candidate must obtain at least 1000 in order to get admission. Although there is separate score for quantitative ,verbal, AWA section. These scores are provided out of 800. AWA section is judged on scale of 6. Once you obtain the score it will be valid for upcoming five years. If you have sat for GRE twice or thrice then your highest score will be countable.

International students must check out for GRE national average score .It could be lucrative in case of average GRE score, because some universities have policies for the number of candidates to be admitted from a certain region of the world.

How many times in a year you can take Exam?
You can take GRE exam once a month and not more then 5 times a year. You may appear again in GRE after one month.
What is GRE exam format??
Computer base GRE exam consist three section .
The Verbal Sections (30 questions, 30 minutes)
The Analytical Writing section (2 writing tasks – 75 minutes, present your Perspective on an issue – 45 minutes, Analyze and argument – 30 minutes)
The Quantitative Sections (28 questions, 45 minutes)

What is minimum GRE score is require to pursue engineering?

Top 50 ranked Universities may require GRE above then 1300. Generally for engineering Students score above 1200 is considered good for admission for middle order universities ranked between 40 to 90. There may be some deviations.

What are the Prerequisites to get an admission for mater’s in USA?
One should have completed 16 years of education, for master’s degree. You need to take TOFEL & GRE
Student intakes Pattern in US:
US universities have following intakes:
1. Spring: January / February
2. Fall: August / September
3. Summer: April / May
Cost and registration details
You can register by phone or internet or by fax for GRE exam .Examination fee varies according to the continent. In US and U.S. territories and Puerto Rico amounts to 115 dollars for General test and 130 dollars for Subject test. For more details regarding fees and registration please visit ets.org. There is also a option of fee waiver for poor students. Although there is some criteria for fee waiver and you must full fill those criteria to avail fee waiver option.     If you wish to study further in some English speaking country,like you have mention you are a Liberian ,if you want to acquire some higher degree in library science then off course you will require to take GRE exam.

    It is very good that we can ask our question! here is my first question: how long should take learning each flash card for example A flash cards? Second question: about course 1 how can I pass the test when I am still learning those flash cards? I will be thankfully if you guide me.

    Thanks for your comment shirin ,how much time you will take to learn it totally depends upon you.You should only register for GRE test when you are thoroughly prepared for it .Do not go there unprepared.

    Jublee if you wish apply in US as an international student then you must have both score. If you wish to apply in Australia then ILETS / TOEFL alone will be sufficent.I will Suggest go for both test.

    A few minutes ago I pass test of letter A but I just get surprized!
    most of words were unknown for me, I thought this test will be from that flash cards. would please help me that what should I do? Because now I am completely mixed up!

    Somebody told me that pattern of GRE test is going to be changed. Vocabulary portion is expected to be replaced by analytical portion, IS IT CORRECT ?

    I took the GRE exam in October /2009 and I was hardly answer the verbal section part and my score for this section is the poorest.Now I decide to study very seriously and take this exam again .But in mean time I heard that even if I score agood mark in the comming test ,my result will be evaluated taking the average of the two tests.But you are conferming that the best of the two tests will be taken as my final result.Am I correct?

    Monika,you must score at least 1000 GRE score for applying, but if you are aiming for good university set your target at least 1400+ score.

    Hi faiza, GRE subjective score is demanded by very few universities.Whereas, GRE general test is demanded by almost every university .I wish to suggest you when you are applying in particular university at that time make sure that whether that university require GRE general test or GRE subject test.     Samuel,Scholarship depends on many thing like your academic records, recommendation letter and offcouse your GRE score.Exellent GRE offcourse increase your chances for scholarship but in certainly not guarantee.

    Dangana,the cost of taking GRE varies country to country ,kindly visit ets.org in this regard.it will tale atlest a month still you need to check on ets.org.

    Thanks for your comment madhu , you can take GRE as many times as you want, but certainly you can not take more then once in a month.
