Be there in the World’s most expensive Universities!!

Sponsored Links

Hi all! Who is not fascinated by the concept of a reputed University? – Vast, expansive, lush lawns; elaborate libraries, state-of-the-art laboratories and above all a team of prodigious and world renowned faculty. A seat in a sanctum-sanctorum like that is a dream come true to any student. He/she would run a million extra miles to be an alumnus there, wouldn’t he/she?

Not all the most beautiful and most reputed Universities of the world are affordable though- Ahem! The price tag (that is inclusive of tuition fee and miscellaneous expenditure) that goes with the name is not affordable by scores of students. Although the Universities’ financial boards offer decent support, the price of the tuition offered leaves a student gaping.

Here is the list of the world’s richest and pricy Universities:

  • Washington, D.C.’s George Washington University tops the list with the fee soaring to $40,437. The admission procedures vary per subject. For some courses the students need to take both the General and the Subject GRE.
  • Sarah Lawrence College seconds GWU with a price tag of $40,350. SLC clearly mentions that GRE is not required.
  • Kenyon College in the US stands third in the list. The fee amounts to $40,240. And aspiring students need to take a General GRE.
  • Vassar College is one of the most prestigious educational edifices in the US. It has a heavy fee tag too, extracting a whopping $40,210. GRE is mandatory for aspiring students and this goes unsaid.
  • Bucknell University comes next with an admission fee of $36,652. Besides other mandatory eligibility conditions, students need to show a decent score in GRE.
  • Harvard University which inspires many a diligent student charges $36,173. You cannot think of being there without a decent score in GRE!
  • Yale one of the best Universities of the world has a price tag of $35,300. GRE is an obvious requirement.
  • Imperial College London charges a fee of $27,800 for non-British and European Union students).
  • Canada’s Quest University is reputed both for quality education and expenditure. With a fee about $20,500 for tuition in U.S. dollars, students also need to take ACT test, a decent score in which becomes indispensable for admission.
  • National University of Singapore joins the bandwagon of the richie rich Universities charging a huge $24,000. The University has stringent conditions for admission among them a good score in GRE is mandatory.
  • The American University of Paris has a fee tag of $33,000 per year.
  • University of Melbourne is one of the priciest in Australia and becomes unaffordable by many owing to a fee structure of $20,200 per year.

The admission procedures and requirements of all these opulent Universities are almost the same. Besides a compelling academic performance a student needs to show a decent score in GRE (most of these Universities). The non-native speakers of English also need to show a decent score either in TOEFLiBT or IELTS, as a proof to their English proficiency.  A score of 100 as in TOEFLiBT and a 7 or 6.5 band in IELTS is stipulated by the admission boards.

The other aspects of admission include a very persuasive Statement of Purpose written by the student supporting his/her decision to join that particular University. Highly supportive Recommendation Letters that vouch for a student’s academic and co-curricular performance also suggest a seat in these coveted Universities. Most of these Universities offer financial aid to the deserving students. Scholarships and grants are always there for the student who is considered an asset by the admission board.

So what are you waiting for? If you have in you some stamina to dream bigger and louder you can approach one of these Universities. I am sure joining one will be a dream come true. Your future becomes secure by all means. You will inevitably carve a niche for yourself in you choicest field/discipline. Then on life becomes a cakewalk for you. Sounds interesting, isn’t it?

For any query pertaining to admission procedures you can browse the official websites of these Universities which mention and clarify almost all the student queries. Your queries pertaining to financial aid and such are clarified thoroughly on the University website.  Just Google the University name and you unlock a treasury of useful information.

In any case we are there to assist you by all means. Please write to us on this blog. In fact you can put your word right underneath it.

Wishing you Success!!

    Thanks!

  3. amreen naseem on February 21st, 2010 6:26 am

i get much information from this blog but i have not clear instead of GRE i want to GRE SUBJECT that is enough for scholarship.

  4. AnuVeluri on February 22nd, 2010 5:54 am

H Amreen only a few Universities ask for a score in GRE Subject..you can however take a GRE subject in case u want to show that u are more skilled than others. Which University u are u aspiring for?

  5. The expat diary on March 8th, 2010 4:36 pm

    Hey,

I can understand why these universities are so expensive, reputed as they are…

But honestly, i have applied to NYU, Boston etc. for my masters and my fees are almost $55,000 a year.. I wonder then, if in this article you are talking about under-grad courses or grad courses..

Because if you are talking of grad colleges, then I guess $55,000 is too much to pay, when universities charging $40,000 a year are expensive.

Are NYU and Boston worth the $55,000 then?

  6. AnuVeluri on March 9th, 2010 5:10 am

Hi that’s very informative..yes I am talking abut Grad Corses only..hey why don’t u become an active member here and start sharing your opinion??…

  7. Chu Yi, Lu Qiu on March 12th, 2010 4:05 pm

Thank you for the article about the schools that we should keep in mind and about how expensive they are when we put their reputation aside.

I am not sure what I am about to ask is beyond your responsibility when I notice this is a GRE vocab prep site, and it is a wonderful and helpful site! I read almost all your newsletters and follow the lists of the words everyday.

The websites that I have visited seem provided a scarce amount of information about people major in arts, political science, sociology, and etc. I am a pol-sci and Spanish lit major when I was in college 3 years ago, now I want to pursue a graduate degree in either education, history, sociology or social work in graduate school. These are all my interests, do you know if there are certain requirements or prep work need to be done beside GRE exam and TOEFL that I need to do for universities in general? Which one listed above seem easier for me to transit from POL-SCI?

    Waiting for your response,

    sincerely

    Chu Yi

  8. AnuVeluri on March 13th, 2010 11:01 am

Hi Chu YI, do u have 16 yrs of education?? Preparatory work hmmm like SOPs?? in which u need to talk about ur academic projects..

  9. Chu Yi, Lu Qiu on March 14th, 2010 9:36 pm

    Dear AnuVeluri,

I have a B.A. degrees in Poliical science and Spanish Lit. I do not want to major either of them during my graduate study. I want to change my major to education, history, sociology or social work. I am just wondering the from pol-sci to either of major above in MS. or PHD would be easier. Is there anything that I should prepare or do besides taking GRE and TOEFL in order to receive admission or offer.

  10. AnuVeluri on March 15th, 2010 7:25 am

Hi U first look at the Program prospectus and run through the eligibility conditions in the University u aspire to pursue ur Master’s..nothing can be said earlier than that..

  11. Shaleen on March 28th, 2010 7:20 pm

    Hi,

I am currently doing my M.A. in English. I want to pursue either an MPhil or preferably a direct PHD. Some of the UK university sites weren’t very clear if they prefer a GRE (or TOEFL) or not. Their application forms, in a few instances, however, did have a column of asking one to state if such an exam was given and the score acquired.

What does one do in such a situation? I am keen on getting through to a good university in UK, but with such ambiguity I am not sure which test to give or, in case of the GRE, whether to concentrate on the general only.

Also, is an excellent GRE score a prerequisite for a scholarship? How many students, realistically, from ESL countries have a chance of obtaining a full scholarship?

  12. AnuVeluri on March 29th, 2010 6:05 am

IELTS is mandatory in UK..and both GRE and IELTS in the US..some Universities however consider a score in TOEFLiBT alone..u need to run through the site meticulously and get to know the details..

  14. Haseeb on April 7th, 2010 10:08 am

    hii phanidhar

you did not mention what program you wnat to persue antways if you looking for masters programme then GRE General scores(around 1200) are required for financial aid applicants and all students with degrees from outside the U.S. All international students are required to submit Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) scores as well. With that Grade Point Average At least 3.50/4.00 for the final 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of undergraduate study.

a decent GRE score is ???
is 1400+ a good score??r a decent one, considering universities like MIT , Purdue, Harvard, Stanford???
is a CGPA of 7 in BITS Pilani gud enuf???

  39. shipra on July 16th, 2010 4:27 am

hi Sriram,If you aiming these institute then you should think above than 1500 GRE score. However, admission to these institute doesn’t solely depend upon GRE there many other factors like your academic records, extra curricular activities,SOP,Recommendation letter also plays vital role.If you have these things exceptional then may be 1400+ score will be sufficient. Convert your BITS pilani CGPA to US GPA,around 3.5 GPA is ideal for admission.
